Tips for Newbies
Everyone starts out as a "newbie" on eBay. The following tips are offered to make your eBay bidding and buying experience the best it can be.
- Read the complete listing before bidding. Good sellers make a strong effort to inform you both about the item for sale and the terms & conditions of the sale.
- Before sending email questions to the seller, make sure the listing does not contain the information you are seeking. One of the most frustrating things for sellers is answering questions that are already answered in the listing.
- Check the feedback for the seller. Good sellers have good feedback and want to protect their reputation.
- Items offered on eBay are often second hand. The seller will normally describe the condition of the item. Do not expect second hand items to be in the same condition as a new one in a store unless the seller describes it as "mint condition" or "brand new".
- If you bid on an item and win, please plan on paying as quickly as possible — for sure within the time allowed by the seller. If there are complications do communicate with the seller via email. Failure to pay, especially with no communication will result in your account being flagged as a non-paying bidder. That can prevent you from bidding on items from many sellers.
- Remember that some things are outside the control of the seller. For instance, if you choose to forego insurance on shipping and the merchandise is damaged or lost, it is your responsibility — not that of the seller.
